January Favourites 2015

t feels like a life time ago when I sat down and wrote my last favourites post. We've had Christmas, New Year, my adventure to America and I've begun back at school. As I've been in America the majority of January a lot of things I've been loving were bought on my trip. We had to buy two extra bags for all shoes we purchased let alone all the other goodies that seemed to fall into our baskets.
Being back at school I've begun to sink slowly into my old routine, which involves leaving my warm cocoon like blankets at 6am each morning.
Curses!
Friends. Brace yourselves. It's going to be a long year...

BEAUTY
Maybelline Fit Me Foundation (Liquid Form) 115
Maybelline for a long time has been my automatic go to foundation brand. Before that I was content with just wearing a light BB cream, even though the colour didn’t always match my skin correctly *cringes*.  I found my exact shade, which is 115 all year round (with a little help from a bronzer in the summer months). It provides great coverage and doesn’t wear off through out the day. I now have all three Fit Me products in 115 because I love them so much - the Liquid Foundation, the Shine Free Foundation Stick (often used as a blemish concealer) and the Powder Compact. I purchased the liquid foundation whilst grocery shopping on my holiday in America. I was so excited that my foundation cost less that half price of what it would have in Australia.

PURCHASED FROM CITY MARKET STEAMBOAT COLORADO ~ BETWEEN 6 – 10 DOLLARS

Benefit Lash-Hugging Gel Linear Pen
When I was in San Francisco I saw a Sephora store and just about died with excitement. So far in Australia we have one Sephora located in Sydney, my closest capital city is Brisbane and Sephora is yet to open a store there. This means that I don’t have access to so many amazing brands (unless I order online). I went in and gravitated straight to the Benefit area where I found one of the most blogged about gel eye linear pens. I actually love it; I often find that getting my linear close to the lash line is really a hassle. However I’ve had a lot of success with this product. It goes on easily and hasn’t rubbed off or smudged like other brands I’ve tried. It really provides a clean slick lash line and flick.

PURCHASED FROM SEPHORA SAN FRANCISCO CALIFORNIA ~ BETWEEN 24 – 30 DOLLARS

The Body Shop Brazil Nut Body Mist
If you’ve read my blog before you’ll know I love The Body Shop (A lot!). So whilst I was wondering around the airport waiting for a flight I decided to have a glance. They were having a big sale on top of the already cheaper American prices so I purchased this body mist and two body balms. This body mists scents reminds me of chocolate and fudge, the same kind of smell you get when you walk into a sweet shop. I think that this isn’t an everyday scent because it is a little heavy but I will be wearing it often.

PURCHASED FROM SAN FRANCISCO CALIFORNIA AIRPORT ~ 6 DOLLARS

FOOD
Extra Dessert Delights Mint Chocolate Ice Cream Gum
I've only found one place that sells this in Australia, which was a big confectionary warehouse in Brisbane. I wish they would make a perfume in this scent because I would spray it all around my house (and all my friends houses...), it really does smell and taste exactly like the ice cream flavour.
+ the taste lasts for ages and with other flavours like strawberry cupcake - we are finally able to confirm that there truly is a God. ;)

PURCHASED FROM STEAMBOAT COLORADO CITY MARKET ~ 2 for 4 DOLLARS

Cookie Dough Oreo's
I bought these in America and now looking back on it I could probably find some where in australia, but let's be real though I was never going to regret buying Oreos. I found the filling a little weird only because it didn't really stick to the biscuit like the original ones do. None the less - again another sweet thing America has excelled at!

PURCHASED FROM STEAMBOAT COLORADO CITY MARKET ~ 5 DOLLARS

OTHER
Pumpkin Gingerbread  & Gourmet Espresso Candles
Just when I thought I couldn't fit another thing in my carry on luggage... *Smells Candle*.
I'm definitely going through a phase where I'm loving scents that smell like food. I probably find these more of a winter/night time scent than something for this time of year (Australia is in Summer BTW).

PURCHASED FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS CAESARS PALACE LAS VEGAS NEVADA ~ 2 for 4 DOLLARS

FASHION
Ivory Woven Lace Blouse
All my recent clothes purchases have had a really Boho relaxed vibe, which I'm really starting to enjoy wearing. I've started to build up a really cohesive and put together wardrobe. This Blouse is gorgeous! I'm especially in love with the lace detailing on the chest and the cuffs. I really like when I find a piece of clothing that I'll get a lot of wear out of but it is slightly different to anything I'd buy back home.

. Monochrome.  Lace . Thick Woven Knits . Brown & Black Faux Leathers . Wooden Jewellery . Washed Out Denim .

PURCHASED FROM FOREVER 21 SIZE S - contemporary - LAS VEGAS NEVADA ~ 27.90 DOLLARS

Redwood Hexagonal Earrings
Made from the roots of the oldest and largest trees on earth, I'm sure to love these beautiful earrings for many years to come. Since purchasing them from the Muir Woods gift shop whilst staying in near by San Francisco I've only worn a few other pairs of earrings and I always seem to come back to this pair. They match my every mood and outfit.

The Best Pair of Boots I've Ever Seen
When my friends talk about love at first sight I didn't know what they meant until now. I love them they are just superb! Comfortable and could go with anything, which I guess is what everyone looks for in their perfect pair of boots. They are my Little Black Dress of Boots!

PURCHASED FROM AEROSOLES LAS VEGAS ~ ORIGINALLY 89.99 reduce to  69.99 DOLLARS

December Favourites | Beauty, Style & Much More

Hello!

I haven't been blogging over that last month through exams and then my internet dying on me so here's a little something to hopefully give you insight into what I've been into and products I can't get enough of.

 . Style .

Lovisa Drop Earrings – 18.0
Mum - "Drop Earrings"
Me -*Cringes*
~ A Day Later ~
Me - Wow! These are pretty.
Yeah... so up until recently drop earrings haven't been an item that I've really been drawn to - in fact they used to make me wince at the thought. I think that my deep seeded fear of having a dangly object strung from my ear lobe originated in the fact that I didn't want something weighty making my ear lobes hang down around my chin. In reality I was just being silly, these earrings are gorgeous and I try to wear them at every opportunity - surprisingly really light! Lovisa always has amazing jewellery and most of my earring have been bought there over the last few years.

Burans Monochrome Mosaic Skirt – 45.0 - Purchased from Dissh Boutique
I'm not usually one to jump on the "This is trending so I'll buy it" band wagon, HOWEVER how can one not fall in love with this skirt! It says fun and flirty & the monochrome colour palette gives a more grown up tone to the piece. The fabric has a really 90's feel, which I love! I could honestly wear this with anything - layered with some winter tights & doc's or some cute bright coloured sandals and an airy blouse in the summer months. Check out the Dissh online store HERE and help support some other small boutique designers.

Cotton On Black Halter Dress – 30.0
Sometimes when I'm bored I'll go online and add things to my shopping cart - rarely do I ever then go out and purchase an item in store that I've added to my cart for fun. This dress was just so cute it reminded me of a real 90's vibe and then after watching Charli XCX's video clip Break the Rules I was like

"THE 90's ARE BACK!" *Screams from rooftop of very high building*

I bought it. I wore it. I want more of them in millions of different colours!

Link HERE to the same dress only in grey.

 . Beauty .

Original Source Lime Shower Gel
This stuff is ridiculously addictive! I originally started with using the Mint scent and then they ran out at the supermarket so I went with Lime. Oh my, it is amazing! The natural fragrance is so refreshing and it really does wake you up in the morning, definitely a great summer scent. Plus tested on humans, so none of our adorable furry friends were hurt in the process of it's making!

Est. Virgin Olive Oil Mint Foot Butter – 39.95
With mint being my favourite scent I was automatically drawn to this. My Aunty and I went on a little birthday shopping trip (back in June) & stumbled across this really cute little organic beauty store. I wouldn’t usually go for products like this (creams for my feet) however I love the scent and now I use it almost every weekend as a bit of a relaxer after a hectic week.

Miracle Hair Treatment  from Eleven Australia – 24.95 Online Store

When I first saw this at my Hairdressers (Bianca's Hair & Beauty Caloundra) I thought it looked like something a peddler would be selling "Come here folks and sample the wonders of the Miracle Hair Treatment. If you have dry unruly hair than this is the product for you!". This stuff smells divine (a kind of rich coconut smell) and promises to add shine, control frizz, protect against heat styling, repair dry and damaged hair (which I desperately needed) and lots of other wonderful stuff. It seriously works wonders!

. Yummy Bits .

Higher Living Cocoa & Chili Organic Herbal Tea
If you’ve read my other posts you’ll know I love trying new teas and with us going into the festive season I picked up one that can only be described as smelling like Christmas! I’ve given a few tea bags to friends and several have then gone out and bought it. I’d also recommend the Cinnamon flavour, which is my usual ‘go to’ tea. I can definitely picture myself drinking this while sitting next to a fire in Colorado after a long day of skiing during my holiday in January.
. Contains .
Cocoa (33%), Liquorice, Chili (15%), Ginger, Cinnamon, Fennel, Anise, Black Pepper, Bourbon Vanilla, Cardamom, Cloves.

Yen Magazine Issue 71
On a plane back from Sydney recently I spotted this little gem! I'm all for cool alternative mags (some that remind me of reading blogs). A lot of the articles that caught my eye were photography related - Possibly because I'm trying to improve the quality of images I'm posting on my blog. There were some cool fashion look books, with clothing that I now really want in my wardrobe! Although Issue 71 is not the latest instalment of this amazing piece of creative literature, I felt an overwhelming urge to share.

Hope you enjoyed this post!

. Stay cool .

NOTE: A new instalment of of Whats In My Closet? the interviews where I talk to bloggers & creative people about there wardrobes and other interests is coming again soon - if you'd like to take part in the next one 'click' on the Whats in my closet? tab to find more information about how to get involved. Peanut Butter Cookies | Baking with Riley

If you happen to be fortunate enough these days that you can eat Peanut Butter then these cookies are for you! My own (now not so secret) recipe is here for you Crunchy Peanut Butter lovers to sink your teeth into. I can assure you it’s easy and super quick, so be sure to give it ago! I really enjoy my cookies golden brown with a crispy outside, be careful not to burn them because the peanut butter I think makes them cook faster.
If you happen to make these delicious cookies do show them to me on instagram with the #bakingwithriley or tag me using @rileyjxo

~ Crunchy Peanut Butter Cookies ~
Bakes 6 Large Cookies
Ingredients
1 Cup of Crunchy Peanut Butter
1 Egg - Lightly Whisked
Half a Cup of Plain Flour
Half a Teaspoon of Baking Powder
Half a Cup of Brown Sugar

Method
1. Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees
2. Mix all dry ingredients together - including Brown Sugar
3. Mix Peanut Butter and egg throughly with dry ingredients. The mixture will probably feel sticky and dry, if so add a dash of milk.
4. Separate the mixture into 6 balls on a baking try - spaced apart evenly
5. Bake in oven for 15 minutes then let cool for 20 minutes - this will allow the biscuits to set.

Eat Warm & Enjoy!

I hope they work out as well for you as they did for me.
